The Women’s Conversation Club is a meeting place for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants looking to improve their English, find support and develop friendships. We meet weekly on Tuesdays from 1pm to 3pm at The Michael Church, 124 Lowedges Road, S8 7LD. The group is run by a team of female volunteers and provides a free creche facility.
Our ladies get the chance to:
do activities (flower arranging, cooking, crafts)
learn about health, education, voting and life in England
practice English language skills
have one-to-one English sessions with volunteers
celebrate religious occasions together
go on trips and visits
How to Join
Just come to one of our weekly sessions and ask to speak to Claire.
The Women's Conversation Club is supported by a number of organisations some of whom provide activities and others who provide funding. These include : Together Women, Sheffield Mind, Allen Lane Foundation, Sheffield Town Trust, Sheffield City Council Community Ward Pots, Magdalene Hospital Trustees, People Keeping Well and Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind.
B - Albania:
"I come for friends, to learn English, to feel more confident and for my two daughters to play without me and with other children."
C - Bulgaria:
"I’m happy here, I can talk about my problems, I can make conversation, I learn something new, I go home with a smile. People don’t judge me if I don’t understand how to speak."
